Museveni’s Son Tightens Grip on Uganda’s Future
Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, is becoming very powerful.
He is the head of the military and wants to be the next president.
During the recent election, he helped his father win by stopping the internet and cracking down on people who opposed them.
He has also made sure that the military supports him by giving them more money and promotions.
Some people are worried about this because it might not be fair, and others are unhappy with the idea of power staying in the family.
But Kainerugaba seems to be in a very strong position to take over when his father steps down.
Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, is consolidating power and is seen as the favorite to succeed his father.
He played a critical role in a four-day internet blackout and ordered a crackdown on opposition supporters during the recent election.
Kainerugaba has sidelined critics within the ruling party and military, securing loyalty through promotions and pay increases.
His erratic social media posts, including threats to opposition leaders, have drawn criticism but have not significantly hindered his rise.
Despite concerns about a family handover of power, Kainerugaba's position as the next leader appears stronger than ever.
