Jharkhand HC Dismisses Plea on Mayor Reservation Policy
The Jharkhand High Court recently dismissed a petition that was challenging the government's policy for selecting mayors in Dhanbad and Giridih.
The petitioner, Shantanu Kumar Chandra, argued that the policy was faulty because it was based on an old census from 2011.
The court, however, did not agree and said there was no good reason to challenge the policy.
The mayor post in Giridih is reserved for a scheduled caste candidate, while the one in Dhanbad is for an unreserved candidate.
The civic elections in Jharkhand, including these two cities, are scheduled for February 23, with counting on February 27.
Over 43 lakh voters, including more than 21 lakh women, are eligible to vote in these elections.
