Court: Civil Engineers Not Eligible for Architecture Jobs
Imagine the government needs to hire people to inspect buildings.
They said you need to have a special degree in architecture to do this job.
Some civil engineers, who studied buildings, but not architecture, wanted the job too.
They thought their degree was just as good.
They went to court to try and get the job.
But the court said, the government gets to decide what kind of degree you need, not the court.
The court agreed that civil engineering and architecture are different, so if the job requires architecture, you need that degree.
The court also said that it's not their job to decide if the degrees are equal.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court ruled against civil engineers seeking Building Inspector (Technical) positions.
The court stated it cannot deem qualifications equivalent, as that's the employer's prerogative.
Civil engineers challenged their exclusion from the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) application.
The job required a diploma in Architecture or Architectural Assistantship.
The court cited rulings to support its decision, rejecting the civil engineers' claims.
