Geopolitical Issues, Regulations Lead to Thousands of Flight Cancellations
In the first half of 2025, over 5,700 flights by big Indian airlines were canceled.
This was about 1% of all flights.
The main reasons for the cancellations were problems in other countries and issues with government rules.
Conflicts like the one between India and Pakistan in May, and between Iran and Israel caused many problems.
Also, because of the tensions, Pakistan hasn't opened up its airspace yet for the Indian airlines and many flights are still cancelled.
Over 5,700 flights were canceled by major Indian airlines between January and June.
Cancellations accounted for 1% of the total flights during the period.
Geopolitical tensions were a major cause of disruptions.
Regulatory problems also contributed to the cancellations.
The closure of Pakistani airspace continues to affect west-bound international flights.
