Mayor Irrigates Saplings in Shimla Amid Dry Spell
The Mayor of Shimla, Surinder Chauhan, and his team, along with local Self Help Groups, watered saplings that were planted as part of a tree plantation project.
This was done because it hasn't rained in Shimla for over three months, and the Mayor wanted to make sure the young plants survive.
The saplings were planted in a place called Chamina, near a big hospital and a road that is being built.
The project is part of a bigger plan to make the area greener and provide more jobs for local people.
The Mayor also asked other groups involved in planting trees to take care of their saplings during the dry spell.
Mayor Surinder Chauhan and local SHGs irrigated saplings in Chamina, Shimla, to ensure their survival during a prolonged dry spell.
The saplings were planted under the Rajiv Gandhi Van Samvardhan Yojna (RGVSY), a Himachal Pradesh initiative for afforestation and rural livelihoods.
Around 3,000 saplings were planted over one hectare of land, with the aim of increasing green cover and compensating for trees lost due to development.
The area was chosen for its proximity to the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS) and an under-construction four-lane road.
The Mayor urged NGOs and other organizations to ensure the survival of saplings they planted by regularly watering them during the dry spell.
