Tiger Attacks Drop in Sundarbans with Taller Fencing
In the Sundarbans, a place with many tigers and people living close together, there used to be a lot of tiger attacks.
The forest department decided to make the fences around villages taller, from 8 feet to 10 feet.
This helped a lot!
In 2024, there were 22 tiger attacks, but in 2025, there were only 2.
The taller fences stopped the tigers from jumping over and entering the villages.
People living there are now safer, and the tigers stay in their forest homes.
The forest department is continuing to fix and monitor the fences to keep everyone safe.
Tiger attacks in Sundarbans dropped from 22 in 2024 to 2 in 2025 due to taller fencing.
The South 24-Parganas forest division increased fence height from 8 feet to 10 feet in vulnerable areas.
About 70% of the 80km fencing stretch has been repaired or replaced.
Villagers and forest guards report a significant reduction in tiger intrusions since the new fencing was installed.
The forest department continues year-round monitoring and fencing repairs to prevent future incidents.
