Supreme Court Grants Relief to Telangana Irrigation Projects
The Supreme Court of India decided that a 2021 order that had stopped some irrigation projects in Telangana is no longer valid.
However, the court said that all the environmental approvals that were already given for projects like Palamuru‑Rangareddy, Seethamma Sagar, and Gouravelli Reservoir are still good.
This means the projects can keep building without any new legal problems.
The court also said that if new projects are started in the future, they still need proper environmental approvals from the government.
Telangana’s agriculture minister thanked the court and the state leaders for helping get the approvals.
Supreme Court struck down a 2021 Office Memorandum but upheld existing environmental clearances for key irrigation projects.
Projects affected include Palamuru‑Rangareddy, Seethamma Sagar, and Gouravelli Reservoir.
The ruling guarantees no legal obstacles for ongoing construction of these irrigation schemes.
Future projects still require statutory environmental clearances.
Telangana Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao praised the decision and thanked state leaders.
