NEERI to Study Delhi's Industrial Wastewater Treatment Needs
NEERI is starting a study on February 6 to see if Delhi needs more places to clean industrial wastewater.
Right now, there are 13 places that clean wastewater, but they're not being used to their full capacity.
The study will look at 27 areas where factories are not supposed to be, but they are anyway.
These areas don't have good systems to treat wastewater.
NEERI will check if more wastewater treatment plants are needed or if better pipes and individual treatment systems would work better.
Some people think fixing the existing plants and pipes should be the first step before building new ones.
Others worry that even with new plants, the Yamuna River will still be polluted if the existing plants aren't upgraded and rules aren't followed strictly.
NEERI will start a study on February 6 to assess Delhi's need for additional CETPs in 27 non-conforming industrial areas.
Delhi currently has 13 CETPs with a total capacity of 200 MLD, but only 30% of this capacity is utilized.
The study will map industrial wastewater generation and assess the need for additional CETPs or individual treatment plants.
Setting up new CETPs involves multiple steps, including land availability and approvals from land-owning agencies.
Experts suggest upgrading existing CETPs and fixing pipeline networks should be the first priority before building new plants.
