Zelenskiy, Tusk Discuss Defence, History, Refugee Safety
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk met in the Polish city of Lublin.
They talked about how the two countries can work together to keep each other safe, especially from Russian attacks.
They also discussed a disagreement about history: Zelenskiy wants to honor a Ukrainian army group that fought in World War II, but many in Poland think that group was responsible for hurting Polish people.
The leaders said they would investigate those past crimes.
They also talked about how to keep Ukrainian refugees in Poland safe, because some people have been attacked.
Tusk said the attacks should stop.
The meeting was part of Zelenskiy’s visit to the United States and a way to keep Europe safer.
Zelenskiy and Tusk met in Lublin to discuss defense cooperation and the outcomes of Zelenskiy’s U.S. visit.
They addressed historical disputes over World War II, especially the naming of a Ukrainian army unit after the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
Zelenskiy pledged to expand investigations into wartime killings linked to the UPA, while Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki had stripped him of the country’s top honor over the issue.
The talks covered security challenges for Ukrainian refugees in Poland amid rising xenophobic attacks and hate crimes.
Tusk called for an end to xenophobic attacks after a video showed a Ukrainian man and his girlfriend being assaulted in Wroclaw.
