Pregnant Woman Killed Over Inter-Caste Marriage in Karnataka
A young woman named Manya was six months pregnant and married to a man named Vivekananda.
They loved each other and got married in May 2023, even though their families didn't approve because they were from different castes.
Manya's family was very upset and threatened them.
On December 8, Manya and Vivekananda went back to their village to get some important documents.
While Manya was working on a farm, her father and other family members attacked her with pipes.
They also hurt Vivekananda's mother and another relative who tried to help.
Manya was taken to the hospital but she didn't survive.
The police have arrested Manya's father and two other family members for the crime.
Manya Dhoddamani, a 20-year-old pregnant woman, was allegedly murdered by her father and relatives over her inter-caste marriage in Dharwad district, Karnataka.
Manya was six months pregnant and married to Vivekananda Dhoddamani, who is from the Scheduled Caste community.
The couple had married in May 2023 and were aware of the threats from Manya's family, leading them to move to Haveri after their marriage.
On December 8, Manya and Vivekananda returned to their village to collect important documents, where Manya was attacked by her father and other family members.
Manya was rushed to a private hospital in Hubballi but did not survive her injuries, while Vivekananda managed to escape and report the incident to the police.
