Punjab Anganwadi Workers Protest Over Unpaid Honorarium
Imagine if you did important jobs but didn't get paid!
That's what's happening to over 50,000 people in Punjab who work with young children.
These workers, who get a monthly payment from the government, haven't been paid for half a year.
They went to protest and said they were being made to do extra work like registering people for food programs.
The workers are also worried because they are not getting money for their phone bills, and they might not get any extra money for festivals.
The workers are waiting to see what the government will do.
Over 50,000 anganwadi workers in Punjab have not received their honorarium for six months.
The honorarium consists of funds from both the central and state governments.
Workers protested in Chandigarh due to the payment delays.
Union leaders allege the state government is withholding its share of the funds.
Workers are being assigned additional duties, including tasks for the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
