India’s Marine Exports Rise on Strong US Shipments
India sells seafood such as shrimp and frozen fish to other countries.
These marine exports grew by more than 14% from April to August in FY27.
The United States remained an important buyer, and shipments there have been stable.
A high US tariff had hurt exports a year earlier, but the tariff was later reduced.
Exporters and importers are now sharing the remaining duty.
India is also selling more seafood to Europe, China, Southeast Asia, Vietnam, and Russia.
The European Union recently approved 21 more Indian seafood establishments.
Officials and exporters expect demand to strengthen, especially in the United States from October onward.
India’s marine product exports rose 14.3% year-on-year to $3.65 billion during April-August of FY27.
Shipments in August 2026 increased 27% year-on-year, reaching $0.76 million, according to a Commerce Ministry estimate.
Stable demand in the United States and diversification into the European Union and other markets supported growth.
The United States reduced its effective tariff on Indian products from 59.71% to 18%, with importers and exporters currently sharing the duty.
The European Union approved 21 additional Indian fishery establishments, taking the total approved units to 625.
