Punjab Govt Plans Property Sales Amid PSPCL Land Row
The government in Punjab needs money, so it's planning to sell some of its land and buildings, including about 50 acres that belong to the electricity company (PSPCL).
But the people who work at PSPCL, like engineers, are very unhappy about this.
They say this land is very valuable and important for the company's future.
They are also upset because two officials from PSPCL were recently punished, and the engineers believe this happened because they didn't want the land to be sold.
The government says the land is not being used much, but the engineers disagree and are planning to protest if the sales go through.
Punjab government plans to sell properties to generate funds, identifying 124.34 acres across 26 sites in Ludhiana.
Fifty acres of this land belong to the State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
The sale is part of the Optimum Use of Vacant Government Lands (OUVGL) Scheme.
Power engineers, through the PSEB Engineers' Association, are opposing the sale of PSPCL land, warning of protests.
Recent actions against two senior PSPCL officials are alleged by engineers to be linked to their resistance to the land sale.

PSPCL Land Sale Rationale
Punjab Government
The Punjab government plans to sell PSPCL land, along with other government properties, under the Optimum Use of Vacant Government Lands (OUVGL) Scheme to generate funds. The identified lands are considered unutilised or underutilised.
PSPCL Engineers' Association
The PSPCL Engineers' Association strongly opposes the sale of PSPCL land, asserting that these lands are worth crores and vital for the department's future growth and service provision. They believe selling these assets could endanger the existence of PSPCL and PSTCL.
Recent Actions Against PSPCL Officials
Punjab Government
The suspension of Chief Engineer Harish Sharma and termination of Director (Generation) Harjit Singh were due to the higher cost of power generated by state-run plants compared to private ones.
PSPCL Engineers' Association
The PSPCL Engineers' Association alleges that the recent actions against senior PSPCL officials are a reprisal for their resistance to the government's plan to sell PSPCL land.
