Rajasthan HC Approves Land for IAF Base Amid Farmer Protests
The Rajasthan High Court has approved the Indian Air Force's request to take land in Sriganganagar for a new airbase.
This decision has upset many local farmers who are worried about their livelihoods.
The court said that the needs of national security are more important than the problems of a few people.
The farmers say they are not being paid enough money for their land and that the government did not properly study how the project would affect them.
The government says the project is important for the military and that no one's home or main source of income will be affected.
The new airbase will be built on land that used to have civilian flights many years ago.
Rajasthan High Court approved land acquisition for IAF's Forward Composite Aviation Base in Sriganganagar.
132.825 hectares of land will be acquired, affecting 162 farmers.
58 farmers petitioned against the acquisition, citing inadequate compensation and lack of rehabilitation plan.
The court rejected the petition, prioritizing national security over individual hardships.
The project aims to enhance the Air Force's rapid response capacity near the India-Pakistan border.
