MMRDA Completes Rehabilitation for Sewri-Wadala Connector
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has finished helping 83 families move to new homes.
These families lived in two old buildings that are in the way of a new bridge called the Sewri-Wadala connector.
The MMRDA spent Rs 90 crore to give these families new homes or money.
Most families are happy with the new homes, which are bigger than their old ones.
A few families had some problems, like having to pay extra money if their new home is bigger than they need.
The new bridge will help traffic move better in Mumbai.
MMRDA has completed the rehabilitation process for 83 families living in Haji Noorani and Laxmi Niwas chawls.
Families have been allotted new homes or received cash compensation, with the total cost being Rs 90 crore.
Most residents welcomed the arrangement, receiving homes of at least 405 sq ft or 35% additional area.
A few residents raised objections over additional payments and the condition of allotted buildings.
The Sewri-Wadala connector bridge will replace the 112-year-old Elphinstone bridge, with the bottom deck for local traffic and the top deck part of the Sewri Worli connector.
