Washington Pipe Bomb Suspect Pleads Not Guilty
A man named Brian Cole is accused of planting two pipe bombs outside the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican national committees in Washington, D.C., on January 5, 2021.
The bombs did not explode and were found the next day, just before a large group of people supporting then-President Donald Trump tried to stop Congress from confirming the 2020 election results.
Cole was arrested after a long investigation and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He told the FBI he was unhappy with both political parties and believed the 2020 election was tampered with, but he denied that the bombs were related to the events at the Capitol the next day.
A judge decided to keep him in jail until his trial because he is considered a danger to public safety.
Brian Cole, 30, pleaded not guilty to planting pipe bombs outside Democratic and Republican national committees headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The bombs were discovered on January 6, 2021, before the U.S. Capitol attack by Trump supporters.
Cole is charged with interstate transportation of explosives and malicious attempt to use explosives.
He expressed dissatisfaction with both political parties and echoed Trump's false claims of election tampering.
Cole denied that the bombs were related to the Congress certification of the election and the events the next day.
