Bengal Districts Face High Risk from Extreme Heat: Study
A new study shows that some areas in West Bengal, including Kolkata, are in danger from extreme heat.
The study looked at all of India and found that these areas are at high risk.
It is dangerous for people who are older, young children, people who work outside, and those who are sick because nights are also staying warm.
Experts say we need to act quickly to help people stay safe.
A CEEW study identified six Bengal districts as 'high-risk' for extreme heat.
The districts include Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purulia, East Midnapore and Bankura.
Heat stress is no longer fading in Kolkata with sunset.
Bengal is 15th among states on the Heat Risk Index.
The six Bengal districts do not have a heat action plan.
