RIL-Rolls-Royce Fighter Engine Partnership Raises Questions for HAL Investors

RIL-Rolls-Royce Fighter Engine Partnership Raises Questions for HAL Investors

Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce want to work together on a new fighter-jet engine for India.

The engine would be used in a future, more powerful version of the AMCA aircraft.

HAL already makes aircraft and engines and has many orders to complete.

Analysts say HAL is still ahead because it has much more experience in India’s defence industry.

The new engine would need many years of testing before it could be used.

Reliance brings money, factories and business experience, while Rolls-Royce brings engine technology.

The government will decide which proposal best supports technology transfer and Indian self-reliance.

For now, experts do not expect the partnership to immediately hurt HAL’s finances.
