Karnataka Launches Maize Market Intervention Scheme
The Karnataka government has started a new plan to help maize farmers.
They are giving farmers money to make up for the low prices they get when they sell their maize.
The government will pay farmers the difference if the market price is less than Rs 2,150 per quintal.
This is because many farmers are selling their maize for less money than they should.
The plan will last for one month and will help farmers who have sold up to 50 quintals of maize.
The government will check the quality of the maize and make sure the money goes to the right farmers.
In Uttar Pradesh, the government also helped maize farmers by buying their maize at a fixed price and paying them quickly.
This made farmers trust the government more and more farmers sold their maize to the government instead of the open market.
Karnataka government approved a Market Intervention Scheme for maize farmers to compensate for price shortfalls.
Market Intervention Price (MIP) set at Rs 2,150 per quintal, with price difference payments up to Rs 250 per quintal.
Scheme allows transactions up to 4 lakh metric tonnes through the Unified Market Platform (UMP).
Benefits capped at 50 quintals per farmer, with a ceiling of 12 quintals per acre.
Implementation supervised by district deputy commissioners, with mandatory quality checks and direct benefit transfers to farmers' bank accounts.
