EPF withdrawals via UPI by April
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in India is going to let its members withdraw money from their provident fund accounts using UPI through the BHIM app.
This new feature will be available by April 2024.
Initially, you can withdraw up to Rs 25,000 at a time.
The app will show how much money you can withdraw and how much you need to keep as a minimum balance.
This is good news for workers who might find it hard to use the online portal.
The rules for withdrawals have also been made more flexible, allowing more partial withdrawals for education, marriage, illness, and special circumstances.
If you lose your job, you can withdraw 75% of your money right away and the rest after a year.
EPFO members can withdraw funds via UPI using the BHIM app starting April 2024.
Initial withdrawal cap proposed at Rs 25,000 per transaction.
Members must maintain a minimum balance of 25% of their contributions.
Withdrawal categories streamlined to three: essential needs, housing, and special circumstances.
