Pune LGBTQ Community Members Trained as Paramedic Caregivers
In Pune, India, an organization called Yutak is helping LGBTQ people learn how to be caregivers.
They're training 25 people to provide medical help, because many in the LGBTQ community don't have traditional families to look after them as they get older.
This program, supported by Humsafar Trust and Plan India, aims to give them skills for better jobs and provide care within their community.
It's a change from the usual training for jobs like beauty or mehndi, focusing instead on healthcare.
Four people also trained to be driving instructors.
Pune-based organization Yutak is training 25 LGBTQ community members in paramedical care.
The program aims to provide caregivers for the aging LGBTQ community, addressing the lack of familial support.
The training is funded by Humsafar Trust and Plan India, with the first batch graduating in July.
This initiative moves away from the stereotypical training of LGBTQ individuals in salons or as mehndi artists.
Four candidates, including a transman, also received training as driving instructors.
