Revanth Reddy Removes Surekha, Counters Fallout With BC Appointments

Konda Surekha was a minister in Telangana’s Congress government.

Her family became involved in a disagreement over who should contest an election from Parakala.

Her daughter criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and the party later asked Surekha to explain the situation.

After an inquiry, the government removed Surekha from the Cabinet.

At the same time, it gave important jobs to three BC women.

These appointments included leaders from communities connected to Surekha and her family.

Supporters of the decision say it was a careful way to handle the dispute.

Critics and some BC groups had warned that removing Surekha could upset voters and party supporters.

The government may now reorganize the Cabinet and fill its vacancies.
