Jamia bans PhD scholar over protest
A PhD student named Saurabh Tripathi was banned from his university, Jamia Millia Islamia, for organizing a protest and other issues.
The protest was to remember the Batla House encounter, which happened in 2008.
The university's committee found him guilty after looking at CCTV footage.
They didn't kick him out completely but said he can't come to campus except to meet with the Proctor Office if he makes an appointment.
The student group he's part of, AISA, says this is unfair and that the university is punishing him for speaking up.
Tripathi says he will go to court about this.
Some students were also detained during the protest.
Jamia Millia Islamia banned PhD scholar Saurabh Tripathi for organizing a protest and other disciplinary issues.
The protest commemorated the 17th anniversary of the Batla House encounter on September 19.
The university's Discipline Committee found Tripathi guilty based on CCTV evidence.
Tripathi is banned from campus except for appointments with the Proctor Office for the remaining duration of his PhD.
AISA condemned the ban, calling it a targeted attack on student dissent and demanding its revocation.
