Delhi 2047 Plan Targets 24-Hour Transit, Affordable Housing
Delhi has made a long-term plan for how the city and nearby areas should grow until 2047.
The plan is meant to help the region handle more than 30 million people.
It proposes public transport that can work all day and night.
Metro and regional train lines would connect Delhi with nearby cities more quickly.
New homes, offices, shops, schools and services would be built close to transport stations.
This could make it easier for people to walk and reach jobs and services.
The plan includes 30 to 40 lakh new homes, especially affordable ones.
Government officials and industry representatives say better transport could reduce crowding in Delhi and support growth across the wider NCR.
The Master Plan for Delhi 2047 aims to prepare the capital region for a projected population of 3.20 crore by 2047.
Delhi Metro and Namo Bharat regional rail networks are proposed to operate around the clock as part of improved connectivity.
The plan promotes transit-oriented development, combining housing, offices, retail, education and public services near transit corridors.
Delhi’s 416-kilometre Metro network is expected to expand by about 279 kilometres, while the RRTS network is planned to reach around 383 kilometres.
The government envisions adding 30 to 40 lakh housing units, with an emphasis on affordable homes.
