Meghalaya to Cultivate Flowers, Targeting ₹600 Crore Return
Meghalaya is starting a big project to grow lots of flowers, especially orchids, to make the state a flower powerhouse.
They're spending a lot of money, about ₹240 crore, to help farmers grow these flowers and sell them.
Two companies from Bengal will help the farmers by providing expertise, high quality materials, and by arranging to buy the flowers.
The government hopes to make around ₹600 crore from selling the flowers.
They will also build special places to store and move the flowers so they don't get ruined before they can be sold.
Meghalaya government launched ₹240-crore Floriculture Mission 1.0 to boost flower production.
Two Bengal-based companies, Darjeeling Gardens and North Bengal Floritech, will provide technical expertise and market linkages.
The mission focuses on high-value flowers like orchids and oriental lilies for local and global markets.
The government aims for around ₹600 crore in direct profit from the project in the coming years.
Dedicated storage and logistics hubs will be set up to support flower cultivation and market access.
