Reliance-BP KG-D6 Gas Output Declines 7%
Reliance Industries and BP, who operate the KG-D6 gas fields in the Bay of Bengal, have seen a 7% drop in natural gas production compared to last year.
The fields, which used to produce 30.6 million cubic meters of gas per day at their peak, now produce about 24.8 million cubic meters per day.
This decline is due to natural factors and some unexpected issues with the wells.
Despite this, the companies have invested $5 billion in new projects to boost production and plan to offset the decline.
They also sell the gas and oil they produce, with prices changing over time.
Natural gas production at KG-D6 fell 7% year-on-year in Q1 2026.
Output averaged 24.8 million standard cubic meters per day, down from 26.6 mmscmd in Q1 2025.
Production has declined by 19% since peaking at 30.6 mmscmd in January-March 2024.
Reliance and BP have invested $5 billion in new deepwater gas projects to boost production.
Gas prices fell to USD 8.89 per million British thermal unit in Q1 2026, down from USD 9.97 a year ago.
