CPI(M) Criticizes Congress Over Jamaat Support

A leader from the CPI(M) party, M V Govindan, criticized the Congress party for supporting a group called Jamaat-e-Islami.

Govindan said that Jamaat-e-Islami wants to create an Islamic Republic, which is a type of government based on Islamic laws.

He asked a Congress leader, V D Satheesan, to clarify his support for this group.

A leader from Jamaat-e-Islami, Shaikh Muhammed Karakunnu, said that true believers cannot reject the idea of an Islamic Republic.

He also said that the Islamic Republic is an ideal, humane, and pluralistic state.

The CPI(M) has been criticizing the Congress and its ally, the Muslim League, for supporting candidates from the Welfare Party, which is a political group of Jamaat-e-Islami.
