Himachal Pradesh First to Implement MSP for Milk
Imagine a place called Himachal Pradesh where many people raise cows and buffalo for milk.
The government there decided to help these farmers by promising to buy their milk at a fair price, like a minimum support price.
They are currently buying a lot of milk every day from many farmers, and also trying out buying goat milk.
The government is also helping farmers by giving them cheaper food for their animals and helping them with their animals' health.
They are even helping people start poultry farms to make more money, all to make life better for farmers and the state.
Himachal Pradesh introduced Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cow and buffalo milk, a first in India.
The government procures 2.25 lakh liters of cow milk daily from 38,400 livestock owners at Rs 51 per liter.
7,800 liters of buffalo milk are procured from 1,482 farmers at Rs 61 per liter.
A pilot project procures goat milk at Rs 70 per liter.
The state has also been promoting animal husbandry through veterinary care, subsidized feed, and poultry schemes.
