Karnataka CM Directs Land Purchase for Temples
The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, G Parameshwara, told officials to buy land for big temples so they can keep it forever and build better places for people to visit.
He also said cameras should be put on donation boxes by the end of August and that any people who have taken up temple land illegally should be removed in three months.
He wants schools for the children of priests and temple workers and plans for how to make temples nicer.
He warned that small temples should not be given to other groups because they might later claim the land.
He said 10% of the money given to the biggest temples should help the smallest ones.
He was upset that some temples do not have basic things like clean water or toilets.
Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara ordered land purchase for all ‘A’ and ‘B’ category temples in Karnataka.
Officials must install CCTV cameras at donation boxes by the end of August and remove encroachments within three months.
The directive includes scholarship applications for children of priests and temple employees and master plans for temple development.
Parameshwara warned against handing over ‘C’ category temples to organizations and allocated 10% of ‘A’ category grants for their development.
He criticized the lack of basic amenities at prominent temples and urged no negligence in temple upkeep.
