FlyDubai Flight Plunge Followed Alleged Cockpit Attack, Safe Saudi Landing
A FlyDubai plane was flying from Dubai to Tel Aviv when a serious fight reportedly began in the cockpit.
Israeli officials and passengers said one pilot attacked the other pilot.
The injured captain, Smit Machchhar, reportedly opened the cockpit door.
Passengers and crew then entered and restrained the attacking pilot.
At the same time, the plane suddenly dropped many thousands of feet.
Two other FlyDubai pilots who were traveling on the plane helped stabilize it.
The plane sent emergency signals and changed course for Tabuk in Saudi Arabia.
It landed safely, and the passengers later continued their journey on another aircraft.
Investigators are still working to find out exactly what happened and why.

Flight data showed the Boeing 737 MAX 8 falling from about 34,000 feet to roughly 16,600 feet; reports differed on the exact duration and altitude loss.
Machchhar reportedly opened the cockpit door, enabling passengers and crew to restrain the attacker while two additional FlyDubai pilots took control.
