ASHA Workers Protest for Higher Pay
ASHA workers in West Bengal are very upset because the government is not listening to their requests.
They want more money each month and better insurance if something bad happens to them while they are working.
So, they gathered in big numbers outside the health department's office and sat there to show they mean business.
The police had to lock the gates to keep them out, and the workers said they won't stop protesting until the government gives them a good answer.
Some of them even said they might not vote in the next big election if their demands aren't met.
A political leader from the BJP party also said he supports the workers and thinks the government isn't doing a good job with healthcare.
Hundreds of ASHA workers protested outside the West Bengal health department headquarters in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
They demanded a minimum monthly honorarium of Rs 15,000 and Rs 5 lakh insurance cover in case of death on duty.
The protest turned tense as workers breached barricades, and police locked the main gate to prevent entry.
Workers threatened to boycott the upcoming assembly elections if their demands were not met.
BJP leader Sukanta Majumdar supported the protest and criticized the state government over healthcare services.
