India and EU Near Historic Trade Pact
The European Union and India are very close to making a big trade deal.
This deal is called a free trade agreement, or FTA.
It will connect a huge market of 2 billion people and almost a quarter of the world's economy.
The leaders of the EU will visit India for Republic Day and have important meetings.
This deal is important because it will help both sides trade more easily and work together on important things like clean energy and technology.
It's a big step for both Europe and India to become stronger economic partners.
The EU and India are close to finalizing a historic free trade agreement (FTA) that would create a market of 2 billion people and cover nearly a quarter of global GDP.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa will visit India from January 25-27, 2026, as chief guests for Republic Day celebrations.
The 16th India-EU Summit will be held on January 27, 2026, to further strengthen strategic ties and discuss the FTA.
The FTA aims to enhance market access, reduce tariffs, and foster cooperation in sectors like clean energy, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and digital services.
Bilateral trade between India and the EU reached €124 billion in goods and €60 billion in services in 2025, with the FTA expected to unlock additional trade potential.
