Microsoft 365 Copilot to offer in-country data processing in India and other nations
Microsoft is making its AI assistant, Copilot, work better by letting companies keep their data inside their own country.
Starting by the end of 2025, this will be available in places like India, Australia, Japan, and the UK.
By 2026, it will expand to more countries, including Canada and the US.
This is important because some companies, like government agencies, need to follow strict rules about where their data is stored to keep it safe and secure.
Processing data in the country can also make Copilot work faster for users.
Microsoft wants to give customers more choices and control over their information, helping more businesses use this AI tool.
Microsoft will offer in-country data processing for Microsoft 365 Copilot in India, Australia, Japan, and the UK by the end of 2025.
By 2026, this feature will expand to 11 additional countries, including Canada, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, and the US.
This initiative aims to give customers, particularly in government and regulated industries, greater control over governance, security, and regulatory compliance for their AI data.
In-country data processing allows interactions with Copilot to be processed within local data centers, potentially improving performance by reducing latency.
Microsoft currently offers in-country data residency in 27 countries and in-region processing for the EU Data Boundary.
