Delhi LG Orders Joint Drive to Curb Illegal Parking
Delhi has many problems with cars parking where they should not.
The Traffic Police said they had issued many tickets and notices and towed vehicles by October 5.
Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor asked city agencies to work together to address the problem.
They will plan enforcement at busy parking spots and market streets from October 15 to December 15.
Officials are also considering ways to show drivers which parking spaces are free.
They discussed building more parking areas and making better use of the ones that already exist.
The plans also include considering charging points for electric cars.
Officials will also examine whether parking prices should be more consistent across agencies.
Delhi Traffic Police reported 13,34,700 challans, 5,54,073 notices and 1,24,906 towed vehicles through October 5.
The LG directed agencies to intensify joint enforcement and develop more parking spaces and infrastructure.
MCD presented an enforcement plan for October 15 to December 15 covering identified hotspots and market corridors.
Officials will examine technologies including FASTag, app-based live slot tracking and automated ticketing.
The meeting discussed uniform parking charges, a unified parking authority, EV charging points and better use of existing facilities.
