New Arabica Coffee Varieties to Undergo Multi-Location Trials
Scientists have created new coffee plants that are stronger and can handle problems better.
These new plants are special because they're a mix of different coffee parents.
One type is good at fighting off bugs that eat the coffee plants.
The scientists are testing these new plants in different places to see how well they grow.
They also want to give them names that sound nice and connect to India, where the coffee is grown.
People can suggest names until the end of June.
CCRI is set to release three Arabica coffee varieties for multi-location trials.
S 4595 variety, tolerant to stem borer, is available for planters' use.
The new varieties are F1 hybrids from genetically distinct parent varieties.
The varieties are being tested in coffee-growing areas of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
CCRI is seeking name suggestions for the new varieties by June 30.
