Palmyra Groves Planned as Natural Shield Along Andhra Coast

Palmyra Groves Planned as Natural Shield Along Andhra Coast

Andhra Pradesh wants to plant many palmyra trees along its coast.

The trees will help protect villages from strong cyclone winds.

They are part of a larger project called the Great Green Wall.

Mangrove forests will form the first layer, and palmyra groves will form the second.

The plan covers 5,499 hectares and needs nearly 55 lakh seeds.

People have already collected 13 lakh seeds and planted 1.65 lakh.

Palmyra trees can survive salty water, sandy soil and strong winds.

Officials are asking communities, schools and organisations to help plant and protect them.
