Ajay Seth Named IRDAI Chairman After Months-Long Delay
The government has picked Ajay Seth, who used to be in charge of money matters, to be the new boss of the insurance business in India.
This job was open for a while after the last person left.
Seth will be in charge for up to three years and has a big job ahead.
The government wants to change the rules about insurance, maybe letting in more foreign investors.
He will have to make new rules, deal with hospitals that might overcharge, and try to make insurance cheaper by lowering taxes.
Seth has worked in important roles in the government before.
Ajay Seth, former Finance Secretary, appointed as IRDAI Chairman.
The appointment comes four months after the previous chairman's term ended.
Seth's term is for three years or until he turns 65, whichever is earlier.
He will oversee major insurance sector reforms, including potential FDI increase.
Key challenges include framing regulations post-amendment, hospital bill control, and GST reduction.
