Bangladesh Allows 2 Lakh Tonnes Rice Import
Bangladesh has decided to let private companies import 2 lakh tonnes of rice from India.
This is extra rice that they are buying because the price of rice in Bangladesh has gone up a lot.
The rice must be a special kind called parboiled rice and can't have too many broken grains.
India is happy about this because they can sell more rice to Bangladesh.
Bangladesh usually buys a lot of rice from India because it's close and not too expensive.
The rice must be sold in the original bags, and the companies have to tell the government where they are storing it.
This is all part of a bigger plan to buy 9 lakh tonnes of rice this year.
Bangladesh has permitted the import of 2 lakh tonnes of parboiled rice by March 10, 2026.
The import is aimed at stabilizing domestic rice prices which have sharply increased.
Indian rice millers and exporters welcome the move, seeing it as an additional export opportunity.
Bangladesh's total import plan for FY'26 is 9 lakh tonnes, with 5 lakh tonnes allocated to private traders.
India remains Bangladesh's largest and most cost-effective supplier of rice.
