India's smartphone exports to US double despite tariffs
India's exports to the US grew by nearly 1% in the fiscal year 2026, despite high tariffs.
The biggest increase was in smartphone exports, which doubled.
This growth was mainly because companies like Apple are moving some of their production from China to other countries, including India.
While some products saw gains in other markets, others faced overall declines.
China became a major destination for India's exports, but not as a replacement for the US market.
India's exports to the US grew by 0.9% to $87.3 billion in FY26.
Smartphone exports to the US nearly doubled from $10.6 billion in FY25 to $19.7 billion in FY26.
The surge in smartphone exports was driven by China's declining share in US smartphone imports and the 'China+1' supply chain strategy.
Exports of products bearing the tariff burden declined by 11.2%, while exports of products on the exclusion list increased by 24.5%.
China emerged as the largest destination for India's export expansion, with exports increasing by 36.6% to $5.2 billion in FY26.
