Ahmedabad Security Guard Arrested for Alleged Assault on 23-Year-Old Student
A young woman who studies interior design was hurt by a security guard at her apartment building in the city of Ahmedabad.
She went up to the rooftop to walk and talk on the phone.
The guard, named Dharam Singh, asked her to do things she did not want to do.
When she said no, he hurt her and held her down using a wire.
He took her phone, locked her on the roof, and ran away.
She shouted for help, and people who live nearby came to rescue her.
Security cameras helped police figure out what happened and find the guard.
Police caught him the next morning, and when they took him to find the stolen phone, he tried to run away and grab an officer's gun.
Police fired at him to stop him, and he was taken to the hospital with a leg injury.
The company that hired him is also in trouble because it did not complete his background check before giving him the job.
A 23-year-old interior design student was allegedly raped and assaulted by security guard Dharam Singh at a residential society in Ahmedabad.
CCTV footage shows Singh entering the building, spending about 90 minutes, and leaving at approximately 8:52 pm.
Singh had been deployed just four days earlier by A1 security agency without completing the required registration process.
Police arrested Singh near Hebatpur around 8 am Sunday; he was shot in the leg during an escape attempt while recovering the victim's mobile phone.
Police said legal action would be taken against the security agency, and a separate case would be registered against Singh for attempting to seize an officer's firearm.
