IMD Issues Orange Alerts for 11 Kerala Districts
The India Meteorological Department said it would rain a lot in many parts of Kerala.
It gave a big warning called an orange alert for 11 districts, meaning very heavy rain could fall.
Some districts also got a yellow alert, which means heavy rain but not as extreme.
Because of the warnings, schools were closed and people were told to stay away from rivers and hills.
The warnings also said the rain could be as much as 200 millimetres in a day, which is a lot of water.
IMD issued orange alerts for 11 Kerala districts on Friday, predicting very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Orange alerts cover districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod.
Yellow alerts were also issued for several districts, indicating heavy rainfall potential.
Schools in affected districts were closed, and KSDMA advised residents to relocate from landslide‑prone areas and stay away from water bodies.
The alerts warn of rainfall amounts between 115.6–204.4 mm for orange and 64.5–115.5 mm for yellow within 24 hours.
