Tarique Rahman Warns of Legal Action as Opposition Protests

Bangladesh’s prime minister, Tarique Rahman, is facing protests from opposition groups.

The opposition has organized long marches and rallies in different places.

It says the government must act on six important demands.

These demands include recognizing a referendum result and addressing the July massacre.

The opposition also wants better supplies of electricity, fuel, gas and fertilizer.

Rahman warned that people who spread confusion or try to cause disorder could face legal action.

He said Bangladesh should protect free speech, press freedom and democracy.

He also said his government inherited serious economic problems.

The situation is an early political test for Rahman’s government.
