Government splits urban ministry, creates Delhi-focused department

Government splits urban ministry, creates Delhi-focused department

The Indian government has decided to split the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs into two new departments.

One department, called the Department of Capital Development, will focus specifically on Delhi.

The other, the Department of Urban Development, will handle national urban development schemes.

This change was announced on Thursday through a gazette notification.

Two new secretaries have been appointed to lead these departments: D Thara for the Department of Capital Development and Satendra Singh for the Department of Urban Development.

This split aims to make governance more efficient and ensure better resource allocation for Delhi's development.
