Lucknow's 88-Year-Old Coffee House Falls Silent After Closure

Lucknow’s Indian Coffee House was an important meeting place for 88 years.

It has now been closed for nearly three months.

Many politicians, writers, journalists and artists used to meet there.

They discussed politics, society and new ideas over inexpensive coffee.

Famous leaders such as Jawaharlal Nehru and Atal Bihari Vajpayee were associated with the venue.

Lalji Tandon called it his “political school.”

The Coffee House was run as a cooperative rather than an ordinary business.

People who value its history want it to reopen.
