Justice Declines Recusal in Madras Race Club Land Dispute Appeal

Justice Declines Recusal in Madras Race Club Land Dispute Appeal

A judge in India named Justice Subramaniam was asked to step away from a case involving a place called the Madras Race Club and some land.

The club asked him to step down because he had made decisions against them before and used to work on cases against them when he was a lawyer.

But the judge said no.

He explained that judges shouldn't step down just because someone is worried they might be unfair, unless there's a real reason.

He said it was his decision to stay on the case.

The case is about the government wanting to fix some ponds on land the club uses.

The judge allowed the government to start fixing the ponds while the main case continues.

He said this work is good for everyone and won't hurt the club's rights while they figure out the bigger issue.
