Telangana BJP weighs whether Congress or BRS is main rival
In Telangana, a state in India, civic body elections are coming up.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP, is one of the political parties taking part.
The BJP needs to decide which other party is its biggest rival.
One rival is the Congress party, which runs the state government right now.
The other is the BRS, which used to rule Telangana for ten years.
The BJP says many people are unhappy with the Congress, including students, farmers, young people, traders, and women.
It also says the BRS is struggling to win back supporters.
Some people spread rumours that the BJP has a secret deal with the BRS.
The BJP says these rumours are false and only confuse voters.
So the party is carefully planning its campaign, but it has not yet decided who its main rival is.
Telangana's BJP is trying to determine whether its main rival in the upcoming civic body elections is the ruling Indian National Congress (Congress) or the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
Party sources say internal surveys show erosion of Congress's political capital in both rural and urban areas.
BJP leaders report discontent among students, young people, farmers, traders, and women toward the Congress-led government.
In more than 100 Assembly segments, the BJP has secured the second spot or trailed the BRS by a narrow margin.
The BJP says it is fine-tuning its strategy and messaging to prevent rumours of a covert alliance with the BRS from hurting its prospects.
