Bar Council Halts NALSAR Enrolments Amid Cockroach Row Escalation

Bar Council Halts NALSAR Enrolments Amid Cockroach Row Escalation

NALSAR is a law university in India that was getting ready for its graduation ceremony.

The students heard that the Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, might be the special guest.

About 450 students did not want him to come because they disagreed with some of the things he said and did in court.

Earlier this year, the Chief Justice used the word 'cockroaches' when talking about people with fake law degrees.

A man named Abhijeet Dipke turned that word into a funny slogan and started a satirical group called the Cockroach Janta Party.

Then the Bar Council of India, a big group that controls who becomes a lawyer, told state groups to stop letting NALSAR's 2026 graduates become lawyers.

That means these students' careers could be affected, even though they may not have been part of the argument.

The Chief Justice later said his 'cockroaches' comment was only about people with fake degrees.

Now everyone is asking how much room students should have to disagree with judges.
