Kerala Coast Faces High Waves, Coastal Flooding Risk Thursday

Some parts of the Kerala coast may have unusually high waves on Thursday.

This is linked to a sea condition called Kallakkadal.

Kallakkadal happens when large waves made by distant weather systems travel toward the shore.

It can cause the sea to suddenly rise and flood low-lying coastal areas.

Waves in parts of Kerala may reach 0.9 to 1.2 metres.

The Kanyakumari coast may see waves as high as 1.5 metres.

Officials want people in risky areas to move somewhere safer if instructed.

Fishermen and beach visitors should stay away from the sea until the warning ends.
