Maharashtra Requires App‑Based Transport Aggregators to Register by Sept 1
Maharashtra’s transport minister said that all companies that let people book rides through apps must sign up with the state’s transport office by September 1, 2026.
The new rules say the cars, bikes and auto‑rickshaws used by these companies must have the right permits, be registered as commercial vehicles and have insurance.
Drivers also have to meet certain qualifications and the companies must keep passengers safe.
If a company or vehicle doesn’t follow the rules, the state can take legal action.
The goal is to make sure people can use app rides safely and legally.
All app‑based passenger transport aggregators in Maharashtra must register with the Transport Department by September 1, 2026 or face legal action.
Vehicles linked to aggregators must have valid permits, commercial registration and insurance coverage.
Aggregators must ensure driver eligibility, passenger safety measures and compliance with the policy’s safeguards.
Bikes, auto‑rickshaws and cabs used for commercial passenger transport must be registered as commercial vehicles; private vehicles cannot be used without a valid aggregator licence.
The Transport Department has been directed to enforce the policy strictly after the deadline, with penalties for non‑compliance.
