Bombay HC rebukes Maharashtra FDA over Cadila drug sale halt

A company called Cadila Pharmaceuticals makes medicines that people need.

A government group called the Maharashtra FDA checks that medicines are safe, and it told Cadila to stop selling some of its medicines and took away its stock.

Cadila thought that was unfair and asked an important court, the Bombay High Court, for help.

The court said the FDA was only showing off its power instead of using it wisely, and that it was like using a big sword to kill a tiny mosquito.

A judge said the FDA behaved like someone from the Wild West who shoots first and asks questions later.

Because of the stop order, patients could not get some medicines for 20 days, and by the time of the court hearing it had been 32 days.

The FDA explained that it acted because medicines with different ingredients had similar packaging, which could confuse patients.

After the court spoke, the FDA promised to cancel the stop-sale order and follow proper steps next time.

Now the company will get a chance to explain itself before any new action is taken.
